I think we all know at least one diva. Otherwise known as a prima dona, star, artiste, or drama queen, they can be acquaintances, friends, family, or even children. You know the type - they are either a true diva or act like one. Having worked in the Fine Arts department of a university for several years, I became acquainted with several of them. Actually they are quite entertaining and make life much more interesting. Finding that special gift (and being able to afford it) can be quite a challenge, so here are a few suggestions.

Actually there are various sorts of divas:

  • Domestic diva
  • Lingerie diva
  • Organic diva
  • Beauty queen diva

I'm sure you could add many more, but they all have something in common - they are individuals who think they are very important, and are difficult to please. Many times they are truly talented above and beyond the normal person, and they will be the first to tell you that. Often times they have the illusion that they are very talented, and you had better not say otherwise.

So, what do you give the diva in your life? Surely a gift certificate to the local boutique or spa, or a large (I mean huge) basket of her favorite foods (chocolate covered strawberries and such), expensive perfume (not the imitation kind for her), and beauty products will be appreciated (we can only hope!) Make sure you purchase quality products from Estee Lauder, Chanel, Lancome, Revlon, SK-II, or Dior.

Regarding clothes, you may impress her with an item from Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Giorgio Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermes, Marc Jacobs, Guess, Fendi, Escada, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Boss, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Neiman Marcus, Etro, Bloomingdales, Givenchy, Ports 1961, and Nordstrom, or clothes designed by Nicole Miller, Valentino, Carolina Herrera, Donna Karan, Roberto Cavalli, Prada, Victoria's Secret, Jil Sander, Celine, Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane, Proenza Schouler, Gucci, Pucci, Missoni, Edun, Salvadore Ferragamo, Kate Moss, Versace, and Dosa.

For the younger diva, clothes and shoes from Balenciaga, Juicy Couture, Tommy Hilfiger, Chloe, Diesel Black Gold, Lanvin, Maxmara, Diane von Furstenberg,Tod's, Tom Ford, Leon Max, For all Mankind, Bebe, Mulberry, JBrandjeans, and Hudson.

Diamonds are a diva's best friend no doubt, or you could buy gold or silver jewelry (the higher the k the better!) - make sure you purchase the expensive kind (or at least get a tag to place on it) from David Yurman,Cartier, Assael, John Hardy, Cartier's, Solange Azagury-Partridge, Tacori, Gurhan, Moschino, Simon G, and Ivanka Trump Collection, and Hemmerle.

Buy a gorgeous watch from Omega, Ebel, Rolex, Patek Philippe, or Hublot.

What about a divalicious handbag from Bottega Veneta, Bvlgari, Coach, or the most recent trend of shoes from Bally, Miu Miu, Akris, Derek Lam, Jimmy Choo, or Louis Vuitton,

She may love you forever if you buy her a fur from Creature Comfort or Marc Jacob's (unless she is an animal rights activist).

If you really want to make an impression, you could buy her a SRX Crossover Cadillac in her favorite color.

The main thing here is that you have a wide open mind and wallet. Just make sure that you keep the receipt in case she doesn't like something about what you buy. Then she will have the added pleasure of going to the high class shop to pick out what she really wants.

Please forgive me if I left someone out - I usually shop at Ross, JCPenneys, Sears, and Walmart. I guess I am not a diva, although some times my husband thinks so (ha!).

BTW, most of the designers, brands and stores I have mentioned you can find online for your viewing pleasure. And, honestly, I was amazed at how many of them are available at Amazon!! Good luck.

What would you buy a squirrel? Don't say nuts. That's like an appliance to a woman (I think). (it's a platonic relationship though)

You are right ponx - that is the point - Divas only like "the best" and will settle for nothing less. I am not a diva but I know a few.

I steer clear of Divas and have no patience with those that are full of self proclaimed importance. Life is too short. Great suggestions for those who indulge Diva friends. Voted up, marked useful.

Yeah, I understand - they can get on your nerves quite quickly, but I find they are quite entertaining. hehehe

I have been working with actors and singers at a university for quite some time and I can usually count on them to give me something to laugh at.
