Enjoy a Visit to the Honolulu Waikiki Aquarium

I had lived in Hawaii for over ten years before I discovered this wonderful place to take my grandchildren. This very educational and well-kept aquarium is unlike any other I have been to.

When you enter, you are given a handset. You enter the number beside the display, and there is a recording telling you all about it. You have your own personal guide all the way through the exhibit.

My favorite display by far was a tall wide glass round tube which held several beautiful jellyfish. Well aware of their dangerous potential, the jellyfish look quite innocent as they float with lacey ribbons trailing behind them.

There were blowfish, eels, squid, clownfish, seals and sharks. Literally, something for everyone. The glass displays are made of thick glass and are well kept and clean. I just love to see the various kinds of coral, all the beautiful colors and textures that they come in.

The local elementary school children get to take field trips to the Waikiki Aquarium. It is located directly across from the Honolulu Zoo, on the ocean side. There are beautiful gardens in between the displays. It is such an educational journey for the whole family, and one that does not take up too much time and money. The director of the aquarium admits that this place is not only for viewing, but promotes research, public education and conservation and is an example of what an aquarium should be nationally and internationally.

The aquarium looks like a great place to visit. I would like to be there right now as I'm in N. FL and we are dipping in the low 20'3 tonight. I did enjoy your hub.

Thanks for the information. I loved the videos. I've been to Hawaii once, but I didn't visit the aquarium. I'll be sure to go there if I make it to Hawaii again.

Glad you stopped by hello, hello. Thanks for your comments.

It is a great place Aris. Yes, jellyfish are pretty, but dangerous.

I hope you can come back to Hawaii again soon. I love aquariums and the Waikiki aquarium is quaint and educational.
