Christmas Family Pajamas Tradition

Updated on October 14, 2016

Many families have a tradition of getting new pajamas or nightgowns every Christmas. These nighties are given on Christmas Eve, so they can be worn during the gift opening on Christmas morning.

You may have a tradition similar to this. Christmas traditions help bind the family together. Some industrious women enjoy making new pajamas for the holiday, or they can be purchased quite inexpensively.

When I was a child, one of the many highlights of the Christmas celebration at my grandparents house was when my cousins and I opened our matching Christmas pajamas.

We always put them on right away and wore them for the car ride home that night. You can make memories like these for your children and grandchildren.

Some families even extend the fun to the whole family with matching Christmas pajamas in sizes for everyone.

Little children, especially girls, love to receive cozy pajamas as gifts for Christmas and other special occasions.

Little girls can dream blissfully through the night, wearing nighties that have their favorite fun character on the front, or in a pretty feminine nightgown in their favorite colors.

They feel comforted and special as they remember the person who gave them their favorite sleepwear.

During the warmer nights (like here in Hawaii), light cotton nightgowns are an excellent choice. For those cooler evenings, cozy pajamas made of plush cotton or fleece material, with longer sleeves and higher collars are an excellent choice.

Frilly, smocked, or lacy nightgowns in comfortable cottons can make a little girl feel just like a princess. Young girls especially like specialty characters from fairy tales such as Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Dora the Explorer, Ariel and Cinderella on their nightwear.Little boys love Handy Manny, Thomas the Train, Diego and other Nickelodeon characters.

Snuggly pajamas can be also be loads of fun with cartoon prints or in bold sassy patterns. To get a thoughtful gift for that special little girl or boy that will be appreciated for many nights to come, a pajama set or personalized sleepwear is perfect.

It is a lot of fun for the children to see their parents dressed up in footed, matching, embroidered, personalized, and sometimes tacky Christmas pajamas. It would even be fun to have a family picture taken at that time with everyone in matching pjs. Just think of the impression you will make on friends and family!

Some families give sleepwear as a gift on Christmas Eve. It can make for a very festive occasion. Very fun memories to hold on to for years to come.

If the husband is not so keen on wearing footed pajamas, you could get him a handsome looking robe or some lounge pants.

Some may call it quaint, and some may call it corny, but for may families it is a time honored tradition - not to be broken.

Do you have a tradition that includes Christmas pajamas in your family?
