Declutter
Take a few boxes of stuff you don't use any more to the local charity. Many people could use it and by turning down your visual "noise", it will help relieve your stress.
Be grateful
Start a gratitude journal and write down things you are grateful for regularly. This lifts your mood and makes you more aware of how blessed you are for simple pleasures. If any person shows you a kindness, make sure they know that they are appreciated by writing them a note or by telling them.
Eat less meat
You can lower your risk of heart disease by replacing meat with more vegetables at least one day a week. Set one or two days a week where you eat mostly vegetables and fruit rather than meat and carbohydrates.
Lower the Thermostat
In winter, some of us try to overcompensate for the chilly days and nights by turning up the heat too high. Your home temperature should be between 65 and 68 degrees Farenheit in order for you to feel energized during the day and sleep well at night.
Listen to the Classics
Thirty minutes a day of classical music as you concentrate on deep breathing can bring down your blood pressure and help renew your energy.
Bake a Potato
When you are hungry, bake a potato. It has heart-healthy magnesium and potassium, three grams of fiber and vitamin B. It is satisfying and good for you.
Invest in Experiences
Rather than spending your money on more stuff, invest it in fulfilling experiences like taking classes, seeing places you haven't been before or on new hobbies. You will find more satisfaction and may have a life changing experience.
Try New Spices
There are so many delicious herbs and spices. Why eat the same things over and over. Try out some curry, rosemary, red peppers and other delights on your pasta, rice or eggs.
Email Less and Walk More
Instead of emailing your coworker down the hall, get up and pay them a visit. Your back, legs and eyes will thank you.
Retire to Bed Early
Sleep deprivation causes higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Over time, it can contribute to weight gain, depression and diabetes. Aim for a minimum of seven hours of sleep each night.
Check Your Medications
Talk to your doctor and pharmacist to prevent drug interactions. Use one pharmacy rather than obtaining your prescriptions from different places.
Wean Yourself Away from Your Cell Phone
Traffic fatalities are still caused from people talking on their cell phones while driving. Studies are currently inconclusive regarding affect of cell phone use on your health.
Eat Some Walnuts
Did you know that walnuts contain compounds that lower the bad cholesterol (LDL) and can help to repair damaged arteries?
Wear Sunblock
No matter what the weather or season, you should protect your skin from damaging UVA rays.
Eat Home Cooking
Eating in is the best way to cut down on sodium, starchy carbs, and saturated fat which can lead to weight gain and risk of heart disease.
Be Kind to Your Feet
Wear comfortable shoes.Wearingshoes that are too high or too tight will affect your posture and mood, and may cause more serious health problems.
Laugh More and Stop Worrying
Life is too short to take it too serious. Enjoy your life and share the special times with family and friends.
Here is to a Healthy and Happy 2011!

Thank you for such great help
Having too much "stuff" stresses me out so I try to keep it down to a minimum. As you say, I would much rather put my money into experiences rather than things. Thanks! :)
Very good advice elayne especially on how to declutter and be grateful every day and above all, laughter is the best medicine.
Like what they always say "Health is wealth". I think it is really important to think about health specially when the food we eat now is different than before.

Nice work Elayne! I was just stumbling around and found you. I did one on this subject, but probably not as good as this. I get to Hawaii every so often. (every ten years) Of course it's a beautiful place. Sure has changed since I first went there though. Love the people there. Good luck! thumbs up, and useful.

These are some great and different tips to enjoying life in 2011! My favorite is the last one. I like to phrase it as enjoying the small moments, like cuddling up to a nice movie, some popcorn and good friends on a cold chilly night, or laughing at the comment the kid said in front of you in the grocery store.
I like your ideas! I will be sure to try a few of these!
