Off The Map in Hawaii ABCs Latest Film and the Stars
64
Hawaii is the stage for many television and movie productions including Lost , Pirates of the Caribbean , amidst others, even though they are meant to be in other countries. The latest addition to this list is Off the Map , which is passed off to be in a South American jungle. I guess that is one of the reasons it catches my eyes each week, as I try to figure out where they are filming. I actually have seen the stars moving vans at different locals throughout Oahu from time to time.
The Draw
Along with a captivating storyline, similar to Grey's Anatomy (and produced by the same creative people), although it is out in the tulies (Too lees) and without most of the medical resources, they have included some very beautiful people to draw you in including Valerie Cruz, Martin Henderson, Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, and recent Twilight star, Rachell Lefevre. Then there are some very talented, normal-looking people like Zach Gilford, Mamie Gummer and Jonathan Castellanos.
At the time of this writing, nine episodes have been, aired and can be watched or rewatched on hulu.com. My favorite thing is that I can see stunning views of the great 50th state which I would normally not be able to reach by normal transportation.

Have I peeked your curiosity yet? If you are not watching Off the Map, you are missing a gem of beautiful people and of course, Hawaii with unbelievable views of isolated waterfalls, valleys and mountain peaks.
Actually, from unmentionable sources, I understand that some of the filming is taking place in Wahiawa on the North Shore of Oahu, not too far from where I live. That makes the whole idea that much more exciting to me.
Thanks to Lost, Off the Map and Hawaii Five-O, our economy may survive this crazy economy. Hopefully, you will also do you part by watching these entertaining TV series. Mahalo nui loa! (Thank you very much).

I watched the first few episodes, but, honestly, wasn't that impressed. It didn't feel "authentic" to me. I do like Jason George, especially when he had roles in Eli Stone and Eastwick.
I saw on the news a few weeks ago how movie studios and actors like Cuba Gooding Jr. came to O'ahu to pitch for incentives to do more filming here, so there will probably be more if the studios can get the incentives they want.
The first few episodes of The Event, when the young couple was honeymooning in the Caribbean, were filmed here. There was a shot of Rabbit Island that gave away their location, so I knew they were NOT in the Caribbean.
And like you, when I watch Hawaii Five-0, I'm always trying to figure out where they are. There was one episode that was supposed to be on a cruise ship that was actually staged at the Kahala Hotel (I recognized that wall of orchids adjacent to the spiral staircase).
