Still Discovering Myself After Two Years on Hubpages
59
I just realized I have been writing on Hubpages for over two years. It has been a journey in finding what makes me happy, what makes me sad, and what is most important to me. I have shared on Hubpages more than I have written any where else. Have I shared too much? Perhaps, but there are way more stories to tell.
Hubpages has substituted in the last two years for my journal. I have shared where I am from, my religious beliefs, where I currently live, feelings about my husband, father, mother, children and grandchildren.
I have told about my many travels to Tonga, New Zealand, Scotland, the islands of Hawaii, and America. I have also shared my feelings on issues like racism, annexation of Hawaii, ecosystems, social medicine, military service, green living, and animal rights.
You may have come to know of my affinity towards art (including painting, drawing and photography), technological gadgets, shopping, movies, music, food, home decoration and gardening.
If you have followed me for very long, you probably think I am a hypochrondriac since many of my hubs have had to do with health. I admit I spend way too much time dwelling on health issues, perhaps because I acquired Hep B and have had to take extra special care of myself. I also am concerned with my children and grandchildren and their health. Much of this preoccupation stems from my early employment in a hospital as well as always being around doctors and nurses (in my immediate family).
I have also shared on Hubpages quotes from some great books I have read, movies I have seen and artists that have inspired me.
Just like the rest of the writers, we are pretty ordinary people on Hubpages. We have favorite songs, movies, people, and places. But there is a big difference between writers and others. Most people have thoughts and feelings, but they don't do much about it. Their opinions, thoughts and feelings pass through them like air. Writer's react and write about them.
Since starting on Hubpages, I often get a thought or hear something interesting and immediately look for a piece of paper and pencil to write it down. I have hundreds of little notes to remind me of a time in space that I was inspired, and thought it might make a fine hub. But then life happens, and often the notes get lost in the shuffle. Occasionally I will make time to write what I remember about a certain experience, thought, feeling or cause.
My suggestion to, is to get a notebook to write down your inspirational thoughts in. Keep it close all the time, because you never know when something will catch your attention. If you merely think, oh, I will remember it and write about it later - that time may never come. Life is full of surprises! Make sure you write down your feelings and thoughts when they are fresh.
I like this saying by Alan Ashley-Pitt
You have two choices in life: you can dissolve into the mainstream or you can be distinct. To be distinct, you must be different. To be different, you must strive to be what no one else but you can be.
When I first came to Hubpages, I thought I had to keep my hubscore up, spend sufficient time in the forums, and have plenty of followers. I guess those things are nice, and they do affect your score, but the most important to me is to be true to who I am. Don't try to please others by saying what you think they want to hear. Don't argue with those who do not appreciate your take on life - you cannot change them. We all have the right to life, freedom of speech, and religion.
I know my life has been enriched from my experience here on Hubpages. It has made me more aware of my blessings. I appreciate those of you who have followed my continuing dialogue in an attempt to discover myself. Your positive feedback has encouraged me to keep writing. According to my feedback meters, I have received over 800 useful, 64 funny, over 500 awesome, 375 beautiful, and 38 interesting ratings from those who took time to read my hubs. All of this came from writing about my observations about my world. Life is amazingly grand!
Thank You Hubpages. Write On!

Happy anniversary and what a way to take stock of your time here. By disclosing things about our life, we have made ourselves vulnerable and by that token, more human. Glad to stumble upon your hub. Rated up.
Congratulations! By reading the hubs of others, we can learn a lot about them. I hadn't ever thought of this before.
Congrats! Nice way to celebrate your 'anniversary'. How "write" you are about everything you said. While score and income are nice, being true to yourself is more important. P.S. I definitely need a notebook.
Congratulations!
Kudos to you! Wishing you many more years hubbing :)
Well done, two years is a great landmark, keep hubbing!
Haven't visited you for a while, glad you are going strong...Bob
I agree that we can choose to be what we want to be or what we want to write. It's great that you are discovering more of yourself as you write. Congrats on your achievements here in HubPages. Keep on writing.
May You Have Many More Gifted Years Here On HubPages Elayne.;)
Congratulations elayne! That is the great thing about Hubpages, we write, share and get to know each other and learn from others at the same time.
I am glad to follow you here and look forward to more hubs from you,
Tina!
Wonderful hub! Congratulations. I have loved reading your thoughts and feelings and look forward to many more!
Congrats on reaching your two-year mark, Elayne. I hit mine a month or so ago, too. I agree with you on so many levels; I especially like the Pennebaker quote about the positive effects of expressive writing. Eight years of journaling taught me how true this is. I also like your take on the whole "profile score" issue. In the end, it's meaningless when what's really important is staying true to who you are. Rated up and beautiful!
Congrats. I have only been here 10 months and feel the same way you do. Excellent hub!
Some important points made in your hub, elayne. Well done on achieving two years of writing ...
A lovelu and well worded summary. Well done
Well a Big Congratulations Elaynee on your two years on Hub Pages and all your accomplishments! I too am enjoying my 13 months and all the New Hub Friends and being able to write to my Hearts Content!
Congratulations! You are absolutely right. Just when I think I have run out of things to write about, I will hear something or read something and immediately think about writing down my own thoughts on it. It's worked for several months now.
Your 2nd year here at HubPages marks a grand celebration! You did an outstanding job of inspiring others by your writings. Cheers and congratulations for more fruitful years for you as you continue to share your thoughts with the rest of us, your readers! Thank you.
