Story of the Cursed Tiki

From the beginning of this earth, there have been curses. Because the serpent beguiled Eve, he was cursed above all the beasts of the field. Then because Adam listened to his wife, the ground was cursed so he would have to work hard the rest of his life to take care of them. The Lord cursed Cain for killing his brother Abel. Cain became a fugitive and vagabond. God also cursed all those who took a covenant with Satan. In the days of Moses, if someone cursed God he could be put to death by stoning. It seems like there is plenty of cursing going on in the scriptures. Read Deut. 27:15-26.

But cursing still continues on today. I want to share a funny story about a curse. It is the story of the cursed tiki . Pacific islanders like to carve wood into tikis. I have had a few in my house at times and given them as gifts. They never bothered me much because I do not give them much credit other than being a decorative piece of wood.

One day in a village nearby there was a man desperate for a cursed tiki. He went from wood carver to wood carver trying to find someone who had a cursed tiki . This would be a tiki that had powers to perform an act of revenge on his neighbor who had offended him. One particular woodcarver found this as an opportunity. When the desperate man approached him, the woodcarver said that he did not usually sell cursed tikis because he did not want to be blamed for what happened. The man promised him that he would not hold him accountable for what happened.

The woodcarver then told the man that because of their great powers, these tikis were very expensive. That failed to dissuade the man, and he excitedly requested that the woodcarver get one for him. The quick thinking carver went into his shop and found a tiki that he had been unable to sell for a long time. It had a very ugly face and it had a split that went right down the middle of the nose. He took this damaged tiki to present to the man with vengeance on his mind.

The man was so thrilled to have a cursed tiki , paid an outlandish amount of money for it and asked how it was to be used. The carver told him to put it between his home and the neighbors with the tiki face towards the neighbor’s home. When there was a new moon, he was to cover the tiki’s head but when the moon was out, he should leave it uncovered.

A few weeks went by and then the man came hurrying back to the carving shop. He was looking for the carver who had made the cursed tiki . He was quite frantic looking, and the other carvers were afraid that he might be upset and ask for his money back. Just then the carver who had sold him the tiki showed up. The man went up to him, shook his hand and thanked him profusely. He claimed that the cursed tiki had worked.

He had done exactly what the woodcarver had told him to. It took a while, but finally the neighbors home had burned down. He felt relieved of his angst against his neighbor. Luckily the neighbor had not died, but had lost quite a bit in the fire. You can decide if it was the tiki or coincidence. Beware how you treat your neighbors because they might have a cursed tiki!!
