What I Know about Hubpages After Writing Fifty Hubs
66It has only been two months since I discovered Hubpages and decided I would give it a try. I’m definitely not rich yet, but I have learned quite a few things about this cyberspace community.
1. A hub that is very popular today may be in last place tomorrow. The same goes for our own score. It seems to vacillate with the weather. I try not to get depressed when my score is heading down, but I can’t help getting euphoric when it starts going up. My goal is to be in the 90s for more than a couple of days!
2. Hubbers love to learn new ways to improve their traffic. You have to continually work to get traffic. There are plenty of sites out there that claim to bring tons of traffic to you, but most of them you either have to wear out your fingers clicking on their zillion sites so those same sites can click on yours, or you can pay for them to send you the traffic.
3. Hubbers must be very shy or ugly because not too many of them like to use their own pictures on their profile! I wish I knew what they really looked like. thranax I*n*v*i*c*t*u*s hudsonj1994 prettydarkhorse Ivorwen just to name a few. Or maybe it is better that I don’t! I changed from my own picture to a silly one and my score went down – maybe I should stick with my real photo or even better use one of someone that is gorgeous.
4. If you add a link to your hub on facebook or digg, some people will only reply on facebook or digg. They do not comment on your actual hub. This defeats the purpose of sending out the link. People other than hubbers are reluctant to leave a message on your hub. They just peek and then go. Dang!!
5. It is good to link like hubs together. That way if they like the hub they are on, they will probably click on the related hub. I am still learning lots of tricks like that from the smarter more experienced hubbers.
6. You can get your hub on several search engines at once by using pingomatic.com http://pingomatic.com/
7. Hubs with a score of less than 75 will most likely not make money for you. That is why they keep reminding us that quality is better than quantity. Of course it depends on the subject, but most great hubs take a bit more time, research and effort to put together.
8. It does matter how you set up your hub. Just using the first template available for your hub, as I did in the beginning, is not so effective. Appropriate pictures, youtube videos, polls and rss feeds take time to find, but add a lot to your hub.
9. Pictures of pretty girls do bring in more traffic.
http://hubpages.com/hub/Ancient-Indian-Beauty-Secrets
is my most visited hub. Maybe I need to post more attractive women in my hubs.
10. The forum can be a scary place! Controversial topics seem to find the forums and because no two hubbers think exactly alike, it can almost get out of hand. I have been shocked by a few of the comments I have seen – especially to do with religion. I am glad they have banned a few hubbers that got carried away with vulgarity and bashing. Some hubbers would do well to keep a very open mind and control their fingers.
So to Hubpages, thank you for the lessons learned. I still have
a long way to go. I appreciate those who help those of us who are wannabe writers. Here is a little HubLOVE for you!!

I love your hubs, if only to learn what you are really thinking :)!
Whether or not you think you have a long way or not, you're certainly on the right track. Congratulations on your 50th hub! I hope to see around :D
Cute Hub! My joined date is 3 weeks off for some unknown reason. I've been here for 9 weeks and the lessons I've learned and my thoughts are similar to yours. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.:D
Congratulations for passing the 50th mark. I recalled it took me so long to reach my 50th hub. LOL But that's okay, I'm not into a contest with anyone. Indeed there are things that we get to learn while we are here.
Another huge congratulations to you for being a Hubnugget Wannabe! Yes, this hub is! To see this lively event up in the sky, just click this link please and off you go! http://hubpages.com/_hubnuggets10/hub/October-Sky-
Well done elayne. Congrats on HubNuggets. I've been here 10 wks now and can relate to most of what you said, especially about the forums.
Good luck on the nomination, I wish we all could win the hubnugget challenge :) I made the list too!
Didn't know about pingomatic.com. Thanks for sharing. Good luck on your nomination.
Thanks for some great information, and good luck with the hubnugget challenge!
Great information. Thanks. I'm voting for you for this week's HubNugget.
HI, great information. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the tip about pingomatic. Congratulations on your 50th Hub and your HubNugget nomination. I hope you win.
Congrad's on your 50th!
Congratulations on your 50th and on your nomination!
Some of this stuff I did, some I didn't, enjoyed it all..
and kudos for the nomination!
Congratulations on being a hubnugget! Well deserved!
Great ideas on this hub!
Congratulations on your 50th hub and hubnugget nomination. Agree with most of your observations and as a former hubnugget nominee, I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks for the hub. I will take your lesson to heart as I continue my journey to 50!
Thanks elayne001. This is a great piece of information from you, just a quick one on point
4. It depends on what the person was looking for to leave a comment, I have a hub on computers but majority of those who leave their comments are non hubbers who find the information useful, if your reader find your hub useful they will give you a comment regardless of where they are from
7. Yes Hubs with less than 75 score are likely not to make you money if they don't receive targeted traffic from search engine. So here it is targeted traffic that will make you money, you can have a hub with a 100 score with high traffic but earning you 0000 dollars
Those are my thoughts and observation from my own hubs, otherwise your hub is great, keep it up
Love this hub, I think you are humorous. I am new to Hubpages I hope I'll be able to write my own "What I Know about Hubpages After Writing XX Hubs" like you. :)
Thanks for the tip on pingomatic.com....I hadn't heard of this one either. I'm going to start using it and see how it helps. :)
I love it when I can read a hub, enjoy the way it is written and glean some information. I did not know about pingomatic, so you can be sure I will be checking that out.
50 hubs! You Go Girl!
HubNugget Wannabe Nomination? AWESOME
Good luck!
WOW!! congrats on passing 50 hubs and getting picked as a hubnugget wannabe!! :D I see you've been paying attention lol
Congrats on the 50 hubs!! You are so right about the quality on hubs, this is something I work hard on.
great information. Thanks for sharing. I need it.
God Bless you.
It took me quite awhile to pass 50 hubs. So now I suppose I could write one of these, though I still don't have much to say about how one actually earns "meaningful" money on these things. Maybe after my 100th!... Later!
Hi, elayne001!
It was so nice coming across your hub page. I totally feel your words. I am on the same page as you. Thank you very much for your tips. I will continue to work at this. I will not give up. Just keep moving forward. No matter the outcome... It has been a learning experience. Maybe an experience that just might be used somewhere else... you never know.
All The Best!
...thank you very much ma'am for sharing, i discover something different and something interesting... :)
Thanks for sharing the expertise and insite you have gathered up during your time here.
You've articulated several things about HubPages that I've noticed too but never would have thought to share. I tend to stay on the fringe of the forums and appreciate your comments about profile pics. I am pretty touchy about my profile pic because I used to be sooooo gorgeous when I was younger LOL! You have a fascinating selection of topics and I can't wait to read more!
Good hub and good tips for improving traffic to hubs. I'm still learning about the traffic thing, but I am having fun in the process.
Thanks for sharing. Good info. I learned something from your hub. I did not know about pingomatic. That was a new one for me. There is so much to be learned.
Enjoyed and appreciated this hub very much!
A good hub for anyone new to HubPages to read. I enjoyed reading it as it is always good to check out another 'Hubbers' - hubbing experience thank you.
This hub is actually encouraging to me, still being fairly new here. When I see my score go down, I say 'Already!' But, as you stated that's just how it goes. Congrats for your staying power!!!!!!!!!!
Ugly!! What do you mean i'm ugly lol! Thanks.
Im just kiddin, I know a lot of people wonder what I look like, but there are reasons like you said to my madness. Sometimes with a real picture people are open to evil thoughts that they wouldn't be. It can be skin color, religion, or even age - hell even hair color that can make you think differently.
I think i picked the image I want people to think of me with, and thats good enough.
~thranax~
I had to giggle about the avatar choices. I don't put a picture of myself for a few reasons. One of the main reasons is because I spend more time behind the camera than in front of it.
It does surprise me how much the numbers fluctuate. :) Fortunately, I have remained in teh 90's since i hit them, and I'm curious how long that will last. I know once I have a lazy spell, it's going to go right back down. :)
Hello Elayne001, glad to find you and read a hub or two... you are very straight forward in your writing and that is great... appreciate the fan mail and will respond in kind!
50 is BIG and I know this is an old hub. I feel your soul in your writing, no matter what it is about.
Thank you for sharing this! I thought I already knew enough but turns out, there are still a lot of things I need and can learn in this community
Great thoughts

I appreciate your thoughts. I've yet to try and make money on hub pages because I'm not sure it's worth my time. I looked into it a while ago and I got turned off when they asked for my checking account. Is that really necessary or did I imagine it?
